Mustang Cobra Defanging!!!

I was out with my wife and her friend and her husband. The four of us went to dinner and then bowling. Parked right in front of the doors of the bowling alley was this white '98 Ford Mustang Cobra. He was parked on a small concrete divider near the entrance and not in a regular spot. Quite the spectacle. It had Enkie wheels and looked very nice, for a rustang anyway. As fate would have it the buttstang driver and his two friends were leaving as the same time we were.

I let out with a not so quiet remark that "if I didn't have four people in the car..." Both of us left the parking lot and I flashed my fog lights and proceeded to pull up beside him, to make him well aware of a challenge. By his response he was ready willing and able.

It was just after 11:00 at night. Nights here in Oklahoma usually have a decent amount of humidity. It was perfect conditions for my VR-4 to really sing. She is a dark green '92 VR-4 with 49K miles, only two small mods, an amsoil air filter and a boost bleeder valve.

We did the normal leapfrog dance until we could get to a light. I am a bit nervously have three passengers and a full tank of gas. I had to weigh close to two tons. I have heard that a VR-4 can beat a Cobra, but every car is different. The light changes.. I can hear his car roar and lurch forward. I fixate on his black rimmed hood scoops. I dumped too much clutch and was bogging down. We were still even up though the intersection. So I took her to redline and made a great shift into 2nd. I could just feel his frustration in his engine RPM as I left him behind. I was that desperate sound of "I have no more to give"

My first race against a Cobra, and I was victorious. I had been wanting to bag a cobra ever since I bought the car in September of '98. I knew he would want a second chance, a chance to redeem himself, and his car. We did not come to a complete stop at the next light so we did a rolling launch. I heard him hit it and then I put the pedal to the metal. Again I took the lead and crept away from him. We had to slow for some light traffic, but he never passed me.

He of course was distraught and probably angry. Light three, he signaled his intentions to go yet again. We missed the red light so we did another rolling launch. Again I waited to hear him stomp on it. Then I spanked him hard. He did not want to give up and I kept it down until we had to stop for the next light. He never did catch me even at 110mph.

Ok finally a red light. Sure why not 4th times a charm. I heard his tires losing a bit of traction, but I dumped the clutch with perfect timing and just shot forward like a rocket. He was in my rear view mirror at only 70 m.p.h. I flipped my tail (rear wing) at him a couple of times just to rub it in.

He pulled up beside me and we had a small chat. He said he was stock and had never been beaten by a 3000GT. I think that snake has a new respect for the VR-4.
A Mothers Day Special.

It was 11:30am and I was stopped in the turn lane and a nice black 97 Firebird came to a stop on the cross street. The driver gave me a nice long look. I knew that look. He moved on at a quick pace.

After the light changed I began an eager pursuit. He was moving at a good clip and traffic was not working in my favor. After about three lights I finally caught up to him. We tried to negotiate through traffic and get to a light. We went through another three lights before we got to a very nice racing spot. We both moved into the turn lane and waited.

The light changed and he punched it and quickly headed into the far turn lane. He lost traction and began to fishtail. I however came up from behind and took the inside lane without the slightest loss of traction. I quickly accelerated past him, but traffic was too thick for a major move.

We did however soon get our light. He had the LT-1 engine and said he was running about 315 horses. I revved to about 3000 RPM and I could not hear his motor at all. The light changed and I got a good launch and was a car length ahead by the time I crossed the intersection.

We had a full half mile to ourselves and when I reached 120mph he was about 3 car lengths behind. So the LT-1 must have a fairly strong second gear torque. I was slightly impressed that he almost kept up with me. I really need to upgrade my cat-back so that I will have some more power in third. Any way he turned off with his tail tucked beneath his legs. Now I am ready for an LT-1 Vette!!!
Memorial Weekend Memories.

I was on the way to the movies. I pulled up behind a '67 Primer Gray Mustang. Two high school guys who wanted to try their luck. It was plenty loud with big rear tires. We played leap frog for a short while, and just our luck we had two lanes open at the next light.

Waiting for us in the third lane just happened to be a very nice red 3000gt VR-4. It had three cute women in it and once they heard the Mustang and myself making some noise she decided to join in. She asked if I was a VR-4 and I said yes very happily. I then said to her. "Let's show this Mustang what we can do!" It was a nice cool night and my boost was running at least 15lbs. Having been to the track a few times I was ready for the light. I left both cars in my rear view mirror.

The Mustang gave up early and the VR-4 lady caught up to me once I quit accelerating. She asked how I beat her off the line so bad. I told her I had a boost controller. I then handed her passenger one of my business cards while still driving at 60MPH or so. I am hoping she will contact me and I can get her to join the local DSM club. How often do you find a woman who will race her VR-4.
Supercharged Mustang Kill.

I caught up to a very nice looking Mustang at night. I thought it was a Saleen. It had the ground effects and huge wheels. I got his attention on 63rd and May. We turn onto 63rd and I can hear his supercharged whine. We then proceded in good manor to hit it. I went to all the way to redline in 2nd gear 80 Mph or so. I had 1/2 a car the whole time. I love it when you can hear their motor just give all it can and sadly its just not enough!

We chatted at the next light. He said he is supercharged and runs 13.1 1/4 mile ET's. He then turned right at the light. I was hoping to show him the DSM all wheel launch. :P The air temp allowed me to do this with only 14 lbs of boost. Fun Fun!
My Friend Gus and I do serious highway battle.

We were headed out to a race spot a good ways outside of town and we were on a nice big highway and Gus wanted to see what he could do. We started at about 60Mph and he dropped it into second and got about a 1/2 car on me then when we were in third at about 4.5K RPM I started walking away. We stayed on it until about 140Mph I had two or maybe three car lengths. We did this twice and got the heart pumping real good. He has intake, exhaust, blitz DSBC and cam gears. I have intake, exhaust, HKS EVC IV and 13G's.
My first Vette run and the inexperienced bastard ruins it

I am parked next to a nice C4 Ligenfelter Vette at the theater. I have not yet ever raced a Vette so I am stoked, and did not even guess the guy would run it. The guy has remote start on it and was trying to impress his girl I guess. :P Anyway so I fire the beast up and let him know I am not stock. Well we pull out of the lot and he is going the same way I am. So he lines up and I drop into second and tap it to let him know I am ready, so then I hit it. I totally left the guy behind, so I figure he was not ready so I slow down, and then zooommm he goes by at 90 Mph. Asshole! So we line up again and he does the same damn thing, I drop the hammer and leave him in the dust, so I slow down to let him catch up and zoom he blows by again. I try and catch him and I was, but then we ran into traffic and he turned off. I guess he did not know how to street race or he just did it to show his girlfriend how fast he was. I just hope he knows that was not a race. :P
